One of the leading piano trios of the world, the Trio Wanderer celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017.
Acclaimed for its sensitivity, its technical mastery and the breadth of its repertoire, the Trio has performed on the most prestigious international music stages, including Vienna’s Musikverein, London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s Frick Museum, Washington’s Library of Congress, the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Festivals in which they have played include Edinburgh, Montreux, the Schubertiade, La Roque d’Anthéron, Les Folles Journées, Osaka and Salzburg. In addition to working in chamber music with many major international artists, including the baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, they have on many occasions collaborated with renowned orchestras and conductors including Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Charles Dutoit and James Conlon, playing double and triple concertos by composers such as Beethoven and Martinu.
All the members of the Wanderer Trio graduated from the National Music Conservatory of Paris. They studied with such distinguished musicians as Menahem Pressler, the Amadeus Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio and won the ARD International Chamber Music Competition in 1988 and, in 1990, the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in the USA.
Their interest in contemporoary music has led to premieres of works by composers including Thierry Escaich and Bruno Mantovani.
They have released numerous recordings and now primarily record for Harmonia Mundi, for whom they have recorded works by composers including Chausson, Ravel, Schubert, Haydn, Shostakovich, Copland, Beethoven, Saint-Saëns, Brahms, Messiaen, Dvorak, Smetana, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. Their recordings have won many prizes, includings Diapaisons d’Or, the Midem International Classical Music Award and, three times, the Victoire de la Musique Award for Best Instrumental Ensemble of the Year.
